For me, traveling is a good way to develop ideas for my stories. As a fiction writer, my research doesn’t have to go very deep. That’s a good thing, because too much research would soon find me looking for other distractions. I would never get to my writing.
Be it the old fort or the massive container shipping dock in Cartagena, Columbia, plot ideas for future works pop into mind. Then there’s Monkey Island in Panama. What an interesting place to abandon an unwanted spouse, not that I know any, of course.
Settings can also drive ideas for plot. What is my character doing there? Why did he come? Did he come alone? Is he hunting someone or is someone hunting him?
