Jack Van Loan stepped back on American soil after serving 6 years in a Vietnamese prison during the Vietnamese War. His book tells the story of what he and other prisoners went through. John McCain was there in the same prison, but they never met. The autobiography shows what happened to Van Loan and his final release.
This book talks about the torture of Van Loan and others. It also shows how the prisoners set up systems to communicate with each other when they were separated.
Although it has brutal parts, it is worth the read. Van Loan was a good writer and Bob Doerr was a great editor.
